Environment Marker Guidance

United Nations Environment Programme (2014)

"Each humanitarian project should identify its potential impact on the local environment, and address it in a manner which is tailored to the specific country. Through simple coding A, B and C with a plus sign (+) for adequate enhancement or mitigation measures, the Environment Marker tracks a project’s expected impact on the environment, and whether recommended actions have been undertaken or not. The tool is to be seen as a possibility to ensure that any negative impact on the local environment of a humanitarian project is reduced as much as possible. This 2-page note provides guidance on how to use the Environment Marker, using the example of Sudan. "
