Terminal Evaluation of the UNEP GEF project: Reducing Dependence on POPs and other Agro-Chemicals in the Senegal and Niger River Basins through Integrated Production, Pest and Pollution Management
This report is a terminal evaluation of a UNEP-GEF project implemented between 2009 and 2014. The project goal was to protect transboundary waters in the Niger and Senegal River Basins through elimination of POPs pesticide-use and substantial reduction and elimination of other toxic pesticides used in agriculture, while augmenting agricultural productivity and net economic benefits to farmers. The project sought to provide agricultural and environmental programing in six countries aimed at ensuring food security while protecting public health and the environment against the harmful effects of pesticides and other agro-chemicals. The evaluation sought to assess project performance (in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency), and determine outcomes and impacts (actual and potential) stemming from the project, including their sustainability.
