The Contracting Parties to the Convention for the Protection, Management and Development
of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean Region (Nairobi
Convention),
Noting with appreciation the Report of the Executive Director of the United Nations
Environment Programme on the work of the Secretariat and efforts made by the Contracting
Parties to implement the Work Programme for 2011 to 2012 as well as the preparation of the
proposed work programme for 2013 to 2017;
Noting also the progress made in the preparation of the new action strategy for the Western
Indian Ocean Region;
Noting the progress made by the Contracting Parties and partners in the development of a
protocol on integrated coastal zone management including the Guidelines for drafters and
