dc.description | A new multi-stakeholderregional initiative for environmentally responsible management of used lead acid batteries (ULAB) emerged as anoutcome of the Regional Workshop on Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) of these hazardous wastes. This workshop was organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)and the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Central America and Mexico (BCRC-CAM)inGuatemala City from 24 to 25 February 2016, with the support of the Guatemalan Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Moreover, this new regional initiative has set a goal that by 2020 most ULAB in this sub-region (Central America, Mexico, Dominican Republic and possibly the Caribbean) will be managed in an environmentally responsible manner, without causing harm to health and the environment. | en_US |
