African economies remain insufficiently diversified. The largest percentage of the continent’s gross domestic product (GDP)
is derived from natural resources sectors, for example, tourism, agriculture, mining, forestry and fishing. Environmental degradation
is threatening the resource basis of these productive sectors, due to their inefficient practices and resource dilapidation. It is therefore
crucial to enhance the efficiency of resources and conserve these sectors’ biodiversity to ensure that they are sustainable and benefit
existing businesses, as well as future generations.
