L’année écoulée a été marquée par une mobilisation de tous les jours autour des objectifs de développement du Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE), de poursuite des missions d’utilité publique et d’appui scientifique et technique aux institutions partenaires. Le rapport annuel 2011 résume les activités menées par le Centre pendant cette période. Il rend compte des nouvelles orientations du CSE, de la diversité des activités menées et des avancées réalisées durant l'année. Les principaux résultats du suivi environnement sont présentés. Le suivi environnemental ou veille environnementale permet, depuis plusieurs années, de générer des informations notamment sur l’état évolutif du tapis herbacé, la détermination des zones à risque agricole et l’estimation du disponible fourrager en fin de saison des pluies. Ainsi, dès la fin du mois d’août, les zones à risque agricole sont identifiées et portées à la connaissance des acteurs concernés. Durant la saison sèche, les superficies brûlées par les feux de brousse sont suivies et évaluées. Des cartes de feux sont publiées chaque semaine et une carte de synthèse à la fin de la saison sèche. Toutes ces activités sont inscrites dans le programme de travail du Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Protection de la Nature qui les appuie dans le cadre du CDSMT. Les activités de partenariat sont diverses et variées et entrent parfaitement dans le cadre des programmes majeurs définis dans les nouvelles orientations stratégiques. Elles sont les fruits de la collaboration avec les instituions publiques et privées, les projets de développement et les organisations internationales actives dans le développement durable, la lutte contre la pauvreté et la protection de l'environnement. Parmi les moments forts de l'année 2011 figurent le démarrage des activités du CSE en tant qu’Entité Nationale de Mise en oeuvre (NIE) du Fonds d’Adaptation au changement climatique, la publication de la deuxième édition du rapport sur l’état de l’environnement au Sénégal, le lancement d'une étude institutionnelle du Centre ainsi que l’élaboration d’un nouveau plan stratégique de développement.
