As part of the continued effort of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to provide technical information which may contribute to the protection of the marine environment and in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAQ), global, regional, and specialized directories of marine environmental institutions and bibliographies of the marine environment are being systematically prepared. This bibliography was compiled exclusively from the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) bibliographic database using selection criteria based on the subject classification (see following pages) for the years 1978-1986. The classification of entries was performed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAQ) who was responsible for the actual publishing under UNEP project FP/5102-84-06. The bibliography is a contribution from UNEP to the development of the Action Plan for the Caribbean Environment. Each bibliographic reference has been assigned an accession number which is printed together with the publication year, the title of the publication in its original language (with a translation of the title, if necessary, into English), the author(s), the first author address (subsequent author addresses are noted with an asterisk), publisher and publication details, and a list of the applicable subject classifications.
