This document presents the results of the UNEP Project GF/4102-92-40 "Country Case
Study on Sources and Sinks of Greenhouse Gases in Venezuela" initiated in November,
1993. The project is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Renewable
Natural Resources, through the General Directorate of International Relations, and the
Ministry of Energy and Mines, through the General Directorate of Energy. The project
constitutes one of the areas to be developed within the initiative to define a national strategy
on climate change. A first step in the context of this initiative was the formulation of a
national project entitled "Venezuelan Case Study to Address Climate Change", which is
being implemented in three different, but interrelated, modules: Module I, on inventory of
sources and sinks of greenhouse gases; Module II, on mitigation strategies; and Module III,
on adaptation strategies to sea level rise and forestry.
