The following pages are lists of endemic species for the five Indian Ocean countries. These lists contain some species which are not associated with coastal areas because the habitat use for species in the WCMC databases cannot currently be separated automatically. Therefore some of the species in these lists are unlikely to be threatened by an oil spill. WCMC has the information and expertise to identify the coastaland marine endemic species, i.e. those species which are susceptible to oil spills, however there was not sufficient time allocated to allow this to be done.
