A major component of the Minamata Initial Assessments (MIA) is the compilation of a standardised, comprehensive national inventory identifying and quantifying sources of mercury releases. To help guide countries through the MIA process, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) created a Toolkit for Identification and Quantification of Mercury Releases. The inventories from 43 countries from around the world were compiled and analysed for this report. Those countries represent a range of socio-economic backgrounds, regions, and sizes (both in population and geographic area).en_US
