The objective of a pollution monitoring programme is to obtain as accurate a picture as possible of the situation prevailing within any particular time-frame in order to determine whatever action is necessary on the basis of results obtained. The main objective of this part of the Guidelines is to provide useful advice for developing and implementing a quality assurance programme for laboratories engaged in the microbiological analysis.
