As reported in the UNEP/MAP Mid-Term Strategy 2016-2021 (MTS), the Contracting Parties, at COP 18 recommended to strengthen MAP activities in the field of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)1 in order to contribute to GES, investigate in more details connections between land and sea areas and propose coherent and sustainable land and sea-use planning frameworks relating with key economic sectors and activities that may affect the coastal and marine resources. The elaboration of a Conceptual Framework (CF) for MSP as an emerging issue in the entire Mediterranean Region is envisaged by the UNEP/MAP PoW approved for 2016-2017, with the main aim of introducing MSP within the Barcelona Convention.en_US
