It is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and has been held annually on 5 June since 1973. The day engages governments, businesses, civil society, schools, celebrities, cities and communities to raise awareness and encourage environmental action. World Environment Day 2022 was hosted by Sweden and the theme “Only One Earth” focused on the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature.en_US
