dc.description | The Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML) is a multi-stakeholder partnership which provides a unique mechanism to bring together all actors working on marine litter and
plastic pollution prevention, in order to share knowledge and experience and advance
solutions with respect to this pressing global issue. The GPML was launched at the 2012
United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in response to a request set out in the Manila Declaration on Furthering the Implementation of the Global
Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA), which was an outcome of the Third Intergovernmental Review Meeting of
the GPA, also held in 2012. The GPML is led by a Steering Committee. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) provides Secretariat services. | |
