To evaluate the POPs monitoring capabilities and needs of countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean regions, the National Implementation Plans (NIPs) and National Reports of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), submitted by these countries were reviewed and analyzed, as well as Regional Report, Regional Assessments of 2002, surveys, and data from the GMP DWH. A questionnaire was also applied to the three regions to resolve doubts and inconsistencies in the information from various sources, but only responses from LAC were obtained. The assessment was based on evidence from national POPs research studies; countries participation in global, regional and local POPs monitoring programs; monitoring and laboratory capacity expressed by countries in their NIPs, which was compared to the UNEP databank of laboratories analyzing POPs; country’s responses to question 302 of Section IX on Research, Development and Monitoring (Article 11) of the Reporting Dashboard, and the online survey that was applied in all three regions.en_US
