Aligning the Financial System with Sustainable Development;the Coming Financial Climate Flyer

United Nations Environment Programme (2015)

Financing sustainable development is the ultimate purpose of the financial system

it provides the foundations on which its long-term success can be assured, and therefore provides the basis on which to design and measure its efficiency, effectiveness and resilience. Today’s financial system is not delivering adequate finance for sustainable development, despite historically low interest rates and a growing surplus of capital seeking basic, secure financial returns. The objective of the session will be to expose the “quiet revolution” of practice by central banks and other financial market rule setters to its peers. After opening remarks by Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, the below panel will convene to illustrate the key findings of the UNEP Inquiry’s report and to explore how to better align the financial system with sustainable development.
