The purpose of the report is to provide policy-makers, NGOs and coal industry members with information on the progress of the coal industry in implementing sustainable development principles for preparation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in johannesburg in August/September 2002.To achieve this goal, the report includes a general overview of coal markets and the structure of the coal mining sector.
