In this quarter the SWITCH Africa Green project carried out technical monitoring of projects in three countries: Ghana, Kenya and Uganda. Technical Monitoring involves review, monitoring and assessment of the uptake of SCP practices by the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who are the final beneficiaries of the project. The technical monitoring team comprised of UNEP, UNDP, UNOPS and a representative of the National Technical Coordination Committee. The team visited 39 MSMEs out of a possible 1,407 MSMEs across the three countries. The MSMEs visited were selected randomly taking into account all the project grantees, the time allocated for the monitoring in each country as well as the location of the MSMEs in the various parts of the countries. This report highlights the progress in greening the business in some of these MSMEs. The SCP practices implemented by the MSMEs include energy efficiency, water efficiency, product innovation, record keeping, better product pricing, standards and certification to name a few. In some cases this has led to increased incomes, cost savings, job creation, improved time efficiency, improved health and increased productivity. Some of the common challenges include lack of financing to implement the SCP practices.en_US
