The Greening the Blue Report 2022: the UN system's environmental footprint and efforts to reduce it provides the UN system’s environmental impacts throughout 2021. The 2022 edition of the Report covers data for 2021 on environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, waste, water and air pollution, as well as management functions such as environmental governance, procurement and human resources. The Report includes data on 53 reporting entities from across the UN system, representing approximately 307,000 personnel in Headquarters, in thousands of field offices and operations on the ground. It reveals that in 2021, the UN system accelerated efforts on environmental governance and environmental training. In comparison to 2020, in 2021 double the number of entities meet the requirements of an environmental management system (EMS). Additionally in 2021, 46 per cent of entities have environmental training available for staff. On the environmental impact areas, in 2021, the UN system generated ~1.2 million tonnes CO2eq greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with per capita emissions of 4 tonnes CO2eq. This is a ~0.3 million tonnes CO2eq total emissions and 1 tonne CO2eq per capita emissions reduction from 2020. In 2021, the emissions sources were 29 per cent from air travel, 15 per cent from other travel (rail, road, sea, etc.) and 56 per cent from facilities.en_US
