Description
This report provides a broad overview of the landscape of Early Warning Systems (EWS) for the climate-induced natural hazard with a specific focus on flood in Afghanistan, in order to identify past achievements and current and future entry points for further improvement of the system in the country, with the ultimate goal of reducing disasters risks. The findings of this report have been identified on the basis of existing documents and reports on EWS and Disaster Risk Reduction, individual and group meetings, consultation workshops at national and local levels, and inputs from experts. This report identifies that, despite having no systematic EWS at the national level, the relevant legal documents recognise the importance of having an effective EWS in order to reduce disaster risks in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has the foundations for the establishment of an efficient institutional arrangement for application of an EWS network at the national level.
