Publié 30 ans après la conference de Stockholm de 1972, le Vital Water Graphics, en partie repris dans cet Atlas mondial de l'eau, représente un apport essentiel qui corn plète les publications déjà existantes sur Vétat des ressources rnondiales en eau. Le document insiste sur les questions les plus "vitales" et les plus pressantes concernant l'eau, car ce sont des questions des pour I'avenir de Ia vie sur terre. 62 graphiques associés a des explications et cartes permettent de constater dans quelle mesure la quantité, Ia qualite et Ia disponibilité des eaux douces et marines influencent le niveau de pauvreté dans le monde, mais aussi Ia degradation des terres, Ia pollution, l'hygiene publique, la santé et le développement rural et urbain.
