This volume includes abstracts of papers presented at the International Scientific Symposium held under the aegis of the UNEP/USSR Project "Combating Desertification through Integrated Development". While being an integral part of the Project, the Symposium is a logical extension of the training courses on the subject conducted in the Soviet Union during 1980 for specialists from the developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
