Glyphosate is a weak organic acid consisting of a glycine and a phosphonomethyl moiety. The empirical formula is C3H8NO5P.
Glyphosate is usually formulated as a salt of the deprotonated acid of glyphosate and a cation, e.g., isopropylamine or trimethylsulfonium. Glyphosate is a post-emergent, systemic and non-selective herbicide that is used in both agricultural and non-agricultural areas all over the world.
