dc.description | The design and implementation of comprehensive and coherent legal frameworks and related institutional arrangements for management of chemicals, including sustainable financing options is a cornerstone in achieving the goals from the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002 and reaffirmed at the Rio+20 Summit in Brazil in 2012, that by 2020 the use and production of chemicals should be done in ways that do not lead to significant adverse effects on human health and the environment. One of the cornerstones for achieving the above 2020 goal will be the establishment of comprehensive and coherent legal frameworks and related institutional infrastructure including sustainable financing options. To assist countries in his process, UNEP, with financial support from the Swedish government, has developed a Guidance document for the development of Legal and Institutional Infrastructures for the Sound Management of Chemicals and Measures for Cost Recovery of National Administrations (LIRA-Guidance). The Guidance aims at providing practical, step-by-step support to policy makers for strengthening national legislation and institutional set-ups for achieving sound management of chemicals, including proposals for measures for financing necessary related administration activities. | en_US |
