GTN-H is recognized by the Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS) and in particular with reference to its role in the Integrated Global Water Cycle Observations Community of Practice (IGWCO- CoP) and its support to the GEO Water Strategy. Data and information provided by GTN-H global data centres continue to be essential sources of information for UN, regional and national programmes and projects in support of development and science. With the availability of satellite-based information, steps had already been undertaken to merge satellite- based information with terrestrial observations. This is a continuing trend that needs closer attention. Therefore, after consultation with Panel members prior to the meeting, the 8th session of the GTN-H Panel has a focus on 5 topics that are reflected in the agenda (annex 1): GTN-H and its support to the GCOS Implementation Plan; GTN-H and its support to the WMO Technical Commission for Hydrology (CHy); GTN-H and its support to the GEO Water Strategy; Data Quality and Access to Data; Augmentation of in-situ observations with satellite-based earth observations.en_US
