The book describes the natural forms and shapes of the Arabian deserts and their resources and highlights their spiritual, cultural and economic importance and significance. It also addresses some of the environmental, social and economic issues in these deserts with a special notion to the socio-economic and cultural changes induced by modernization and development needs. Moreover, the book addresses the causes of desertification in the Arabian deserts and means to combat it as reflected by past and ongoing efforts undertaken by the Arab countries. Finally, the book sheds a light on the role of ACSAD, UNEP, and other national, regional and international organizations in preserving desert ecosystems and cultures and in combating desertification.
