The seventh pan-European environmental assessment gives an insight into the progress achieved in environmental protection, a cornerstone of life and human health, but also highlights the numerous challenges that need to be tackled by the whole of society. The successes are far fewer than the setbacks and failures to make progress. The
assessment therefore provides much food for thought for ministers attending the Ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference (Nicosia, 5–7 October 2022).
